November 1, 2011 – From Hawaii, Rhode Island and just about anywhere in between, young judo fighters from the United States have arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, for the Junior World Championships, perhaps the biggest event on the planet for junior judoka.

This year George and Summer Truong from Konan Club Ju Shin Kan in Colorado Springs are competing.

You can watch ‘your kids’ LIVE by going to IPPON.TV. Competition runs Thursday through Sunday this week, Nov. 3 – 6.

USA Judo has 28 junior players at this tournament. Many countries send two athletes per division making this a highly competitive event with some fighters in past years medaling at both the junior and senior World Championships in the same year.

“There are over 630 athletes registered and we expect to see some outstanding judo,” said Corrine Shigemoto, USA Judo’s Director of Membership and Events and the head of the U.S. team in Cape Town. “Our athletes have worked hard to get here and they’re ready to get on the mat!”
