JAM Konan Summer Junior Joint Workout – August 20 – Birmingham Y, Birmingham MI

Harun BogdanicThe last of three summer summer joint workouts is scheduled for this Saturday, August 20, at Saito-dojo, Birmingham Y, Birmingham MI.

Time: 12:00 noon – 2:30 pm

The goal of these joint workouts is to get as many junior/youth competitors together in one place as possible so they can all get mat time with other’s in their skill, weight and age range that they don’t see all the time. This should be a great opportunity to play with other competitors and experience what it will take to play at the national level.

Cost:   Costs will be 10 dollars per person.  In the event that there are multiple club members we will discount each club member $2 per additional member (i.e. cost $8/person)

*** Please be sure to have your sensei (Shodan or higher) sign your standard waiver if you yourself are not Shodan or higher.

USJF Promotion Form 20 Deadline – August 26, 2016

konan-logo3Please note the the deadline for submitting USJF Form 20 Recommendation for Promotion for the Konan Fall Promotion events is August 26.

Please review your Form 20 with your sensei. He or she is familiar with the form and can help you avoid issues or possible rejection of your form.  The submission deadline allows the responsible Promotion Committee members to review your Form 20 and get any necessary additional information or corrections from you before the deadline for submission to USJF.  Please help them help you by submitting your Form 20 as early as you can and no later than the deadline.

Konan JAM Summer Joint Work-out Report

2016-07-24 Youth Clinic

On Sunday, July 24, Harun Bogdanic, under the supervision of Jerry Wee-sensei, led a Konan JAM Summer Joint Workout at Saito-dojo, aimed at youth competitors.

The workout consisted primarily of technical drills, nagekomi and randori. A turn-over to juji-gatame with variations, was the featured ne-waza technique.

Fight Like A Girl Camp Special Guest – Cuban Maria Celia Laborde – August 7

We have the pleasure of hosting Maria Celia Laborde from Cuba coming to this year’s “Fight Like A Girl” Camp at Southside Dojo,  8534 Portage Rd., Portage, MI on August 6-7, 2016.

We are holding an extra afternoon session on Sunday, August 7, open to both male and female Judoka from 2 pm to 5 pm. The cost of this session is $20 whit extra donations welcome for her relocation to the USA.

We hope you can join us for this outstanding opportunity work with a World Class Cuban player.

Maria Celia Laborde from Cuba won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk in 2014 U48kg. She won the Pan Am Championships in the same year and is multiple times Champion of Cuba. She won bronze at the Grand Slam of Paris in 2013.

Shintaro Nakano – Outstanding Competition & Technical Training September 24, 2016 – Birmingham MI

MJDA will be hosting current San Jose State Coach, Shintaro Nakano (Godan), for a three-part clinic on Saturday, September 24 at Saito Dojo in Birmingham, MI.

The reigistration form will be posted shortly.

The clinic will feature group instruction, individual  assistance for each participant on their tokui-waza, and, finally, randori to practice and improve participants’ technique.

Nakano-sensei  is the San Jose State University Judo team Coach and Coach of Marti Malloy, 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist and 2013 World Silver Medalist and operates Nakano Judo Academy in San Jose CA.

  • Clinic: 1pm to 2:30pm

Coach Nakano’s Judo Achievements:

Shintaro Nakano is Black Belt 5th Dan born in Miyazaki, Japan. He started his Judo career at the age of five
and learned from the beginning the traditional beliefs and values of Judo. He is a graduate of Chuo
University in Japan.  He was a member of the Japanese Judo National team from 1998 to 2004 at 60kg and
from 2006 to 2008 at 66kg.
