Call for Referees 2013 Ontario Open

Hello fellow Referees and Referee Committee Chairs,

IpponI am pleased to invite you and your fellow referees (National “C” and higher) to officiate at the “2013 Ontario Open” for divisions U15, U18, U21, Seniors and Masters.

The tournament will take place at the MasterCard Centre, 400 Kipling Ave, Toronto (Etobicoke), ON, M8V 4L1 on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, 2013. (Click here for tournament info). Referees are asked to present themselves to the Chief Referee in the Official’s lounge at the venue for a Roll-call by 0730 on both days.

Interested referees, please RSVP to pre-register for your accreditation by clicking on this e-mail link.

Referee accreditation will take place in the Official Hotel – Marriot Toronto Airport, 901 Dixon Road, Toronto, ON M9W 1J5 on Friday, May 17.

You must have accreditation to enter the tournament venue on Saturday and Sunday.

2013 IJF Rule Changes Effective March 22, 2013

Thanks to all attendees at Saturday’s IJF Rules Clinic, hosted by Noboru Saito-sensei at Saito-dojo at the Birmingham Family Y.

In addition to on-the-mat practical training sessions, applying the rules to mock matches,  a classroom session was held reviewing the following materials:

Although they may appear to be a minor natural progression from the present rules, adopting and adopting to these rules will be challenging for all shia participants: referees, coaches and players.

New White Gi Rule from IJF

News from contributing editor Harun Bogdanic:

IJF CHANGES JUDO SEEDING RULES. NOW ALL TOP SEEDS WILL START IN WHITE: In a circular to all national judo associations the International Judo Federation announced today that the White Judogi will be called first.

Without actually stating the obvious the IJF has signaled that all the top seeds will now be in white judogi… when they start the competition.

This will ensure that champions, such as Teddy Riner pictured, are more likely to be seen on television and in pictures winning in white. Something that it is believed the Japanese have been lobbying for in the past.
