JOSEPH RAYMOND “SENSEI JOE” HIGI III, 68, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Heritage Park Health Care Center, Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne, Joseph was a truck driver and millwright for many years and a member of Come As You Are Community Church. He was passionate about Judo and will be dearly missed by his students at Kenshiki Dojo.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Higi of Fort Wayne; sons, Joshua (Laurie) Higi of South Whitley, Ind. and Christopher Higi of Alba, Mich.; daughter, Allison Higi of Knoxville, Iowa; stepdaughter, Angela Klemm; stepson, Brian Klemm; son / grandson, Ethan Higi; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Twink (Larry) Maddox, EJ (Sandy) Fortmann, Tim (Cindy) Fortmann, Jan Higi, Julia Higi, and Jennifer Higi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Fortmann; father, Joseph Higi Jr.; and brothers, Jerry, Jeffrey and James Higi.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Come As You Are Baptist Church, 7910 South Anthony Blvd., with visitation one hour prior. Calling also from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Memorials may be made to Kenshiki Dojo.
