Hello Senseis of the Midwest!
The Illini Judo Club is hosting its first tournament — we are in partnership with the National Collegiate Judo Association and are hosting the Midwest Collegiate Regional Championships which will be an added division to our Seniors/Masters Tournament.
If you have not heard, we were given 5 weeks notice to put on this tournament, and our team has taken the bull by the horns and are making it happen.
We are about 2 1/2 weeks out — our tournament will be held on Sunday, March 13 at the Leonhard Recreation Center in Champaign, IL. The doors open at 9am and we hope to have the shiais starting by 1030am.
Our pre-registration deadline is March 7 — $45 for the first division and $20 for the second division. Walkups will be $60 (we’re trying to get as many pre-registrants as possible, so we can stick to our schedule — we have to be out of the venue by 4pm….so our last match is scheduled to be at 2:55pm.
This is a collegiate (full-time college student), seniors and masters tournament — seniors and masters do not have to have collegiate standing. There is no junior division.
We hope you will come and join us. And BTW — March 13 is daylight savings time, so be sure to set your clocks ahead to adjust for the lost hour. I have attached a poster and the entry pack. Any more information can also be found at illinijudo.org
Our host hotel is the Courtyard Marriott of Champaign — they have a special rate which is only good until this Saturday, February 27. All competitors/coaches/refs will receive a complimentary breakfast on March 13. We will also have weigh-ins the night before (5-9pm) at the hotel. Click here for the reservation link.
I know this is short notice, but I’m hoping that at this point, this is just a friendly reminder that our tournament is quickly approaching!!!!
Thank you,
Grace Talusan
