Olivia! Chu To Bu West’s Olivia Crimaldi Medals in Pan Am Championships

Congratulations to Olivia Crimaldi of Konan member club (of Chu To Bu West Judo, Avon OH, Bronze medalist at the recent Infantil Pan American Championships held in Carolina, Puerto Rico at the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum last weekend.

Olivia was selected to represent Team USA in the girls 13-14 year old, under 40 kg category. The division included girls from Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic and the United States of America.

Her tournament began with a tough fought loss against the Dominican player in the first round.  Ms. Crimaldi battled back through the repechage bracket defeating athletes from Puerto Rico and Brazil.  These wins secured her a spot on the podium with a bronze medal finish.

Keep your eye on this young rising star –  Winning this bronze medal at the Pan Am Championships and winning  Gold medal at the USA Nationals this past the summer, her future looks bright.

Congratulations to Olivia, and thanks to her sensei, Paul Jordan, and her many supporters at Chu To Bu West Judo.


Don Kelley-sensei Inducted to Great Lakes Open Hall of Fame

Mr. Don Kelley,  Saito-sensei’s long-time student and assistant instructor at the Birmingham Y Satio-dojo, was recently honored with membership in the Great Lakes Open Hall of Fame.  Yesterday, he was presented with a certificate of recognition and appreciation.

Mr.  Kelley has tirelessly worked in the key role of competitor registration for many, many years.  He has been a model and inspiration to many in his generous giving of his time, efforts and money in support of Michigan Judo.

Mr. Kelley, we thank you.
