All:
As of this writing 38 states have passed a head injury law (focusing on concussion for youth) which includes judo and judo class activities. In response to this action we have taken the following position that was passed pending legal review (which took place) at then last Board of Directors Meeting.
We have finalized the Konan Policy and Procedure in regards to head injuries in close consultation with the Konan and JAM attorney and the USJF attorney. This policy and procedure is based on the Michigan Law. For those of you not in Michigan we suggest you speak to your attorneys to ensure our policy and procedures are aligned with your state laws regarding head injuries and concussions.
ALL HEAD INSTRUCTORS AND TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS MUST TAKE THE CDC CONCUSSION COURSE (Click here) AND SEND YOUR CERTIFICATION TO ME ASAP. THE LAW IS IN EFFECT.
Click here to visit the full CDC concussion website.
A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the approximately 1/2 hour course and a copy is to be sent to the Executive Director (Neil Simon is executive director for both organizations) by e-mail (click here). The course should be completed ASAP.
For those out of Michigan it would be very helpful to let us know the modifications to the policy and procedure your legal advisor recommend so we can have it for the record.
I have attached for your use the following:
Compliance is mandatory!
If you have any questions about the mandatory compliance please contact Jim Murray, Konan President, or Neil Simon, JAM President and Executive Director for Konan and JAM.
Thanks for all your help and participation.
