Konan Judo

I am writing you today on behalf of the Konan Judo Association. As you may know, Konan is a not for profit 501C3 organization, that is directly responsible for much of the judo activity in the Midwest. Our scope of influence stretches from Pennsylvania to Colorado, and from Upper Michigan through Ohio. Working closely with the various national organizations, Konan’s mission is to assist our member clubs, instructors, judokas, and the community to enjoy their judo experience.

Mr. Louie Furukawa passed away in 2005. He was an active supporter of judo in the Midwest for over 50 years. He represented the perfect example of a dedicated and selfless sensei devoted to making his students learn the fundamentals of judo while having fun. In memory of Mr. Furukawa we established the Konan Louie Furukawa Endowment Fund dedicated to helping grow and nurture judo at all levels.

Judo is an excellent sport’s vehicle that is used to build a person’s confidence. Judo provides structured self defense training, gives structure to a youth’s development, and ensures a great life long fitness regimen. Judo’s emphasis on structure with strong physical education and sound moral orientation ensures it to be both safe and enjoyable for people of any age. Funds from the endowment may be used for the further development of judo in countless ways. Funds may be used to off set the cost of tournaments, instructive clinics for the underprivileged, or for judo players in training. Endowment money may also be used to further develop judo at all levels, from local recreational activity to international competitors. As an Olympic sport, funds may be used to off set various expenses (travel, lodging, trainings, etc.) faced by our region’s high level competitors. I think you can see that the uses of the endowment funds are as diverse as the judo community itself.

As 2011 chairperson of the Konan endowment, I am asking you to please donate whatever you can during this holiday season to help insure the great sport of judo will continue to grow for years to come. Please send your tax deductible contribution to:
