Referee Clinic at Konan Rank Evaluation

November 29, 2011

IpponA Referee Training Clinic is being planned in conjunction with the upcoming Konan Rank Evaluation Tournament in East Lansing on Sunday, January 15, 2012.

The clinic will consist of one hour of class room training followed by a practical session, refereeing on the mat.

As you know, we can not hold a tournament without referees.  This is a good chance for you to try on the jacket and see judo from a completely different perspective. If you enjoy it and are proficient, we can give you many opportunities to develop your skill.

The clinic will be led by Mr. Tom Sheehan, IJF-B, and Mr. Don Flagg, PJC-C.  Click here for details.

Ohio’s Myles Porter takes GOLD At Parapan American Games In Guadalajara

November 23, 2011

From USA-Judo:

November 18, 2011 – Myles Porter,  from Fremont OH, has been climbing hard for several years and yesterday he threw an arm up over the mountain of victory and pulled himself up high, taking gold at the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, securing a position on the U.S. Paralympic Judo Team headed to London next year.

“It’s one of those things I’ve been waiting for a long time,” Porter said after cleaning house through four matches with a series of breathtaking drop seoinage throws. “The experience of hearing my national anthem in a big international competition like that, it feels just great!” he exclaimed.

“I am very proud of Myles. His judo has come a long way in the last 4 years,” said Eddie Liddie, Porter’s coach at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. “With this win he showed that he is now on a whole new level.”

Al Panackia Fund Raiser

November 16, 2011

From Sensei Frances Glaze:

Sensei Al Panackia has suffered a severe injury to both his quadriceps while demonstrating kata at the July Junior Nationals in Toledo.

As many of you know, Panackia-sensei is an accomplished kata practitioner and competitor, winning gold, silver and bronze medals in World Masters Kata competition as well as competing in the 1st World Kata Championships in Malta in 2009.

This injury has left Al immobilized and unable to work while he is in long term recovery. He is unable to climb stairs and so is confined to the ground floor of his home. This has created great financial and emotional hardship.

In order to help alleviate this stress, I have undertaken a fundraising campaign to buy Panackia-sensei an iPad and internet service so he can stay in touch with his many friends and supporters. Please help support this effort by sending contributions to me, Frances Glaze.

Please e-mail me for details on where to send the contribution. Our target is $1400. So far we have raised $500. Contributions in any amount are appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.
