Opening Ceremonies offers great entertainment including special guest appearances by MSU coaches Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio
Grand Rapids, Mich. June 8, 2011 – The Meijer State Games of Michigan Opening Ceremonies will take place June 24, 2011 at Fifth Third Ballpark (4500 West River DriveNortheast Comstock Park,MI49321).
Like the Olympics, the Meijer State Games of Michigan includes an Opening Ceremonies that allows thousands of spectators to witness the Parade of Athletes, Lighting of the Cauldron, pyrotechnics and experience great entertainment.
West Michigan Sports Commission Event Manager, Eric Engelbarts explained “The Meijer State Games of Michigan strives to provide Michigan residents the opportunity to participate in a national caliber event at the state level. Opening Ceremonies is a major part of the athletes overall experience in the Meijer State Games of Michigan.”
Athletes, volunteers and the general public are all encouraged to join the Meijer State Games of Michigan for a unique experience. Prior to Opening Ceremonies, those in attendance will have the opportunity enjoy a variety of activities such as Olympic Day, live music, Athlete Leadership Summit, exceptional sport demonstrations, a Fun Zone and Meijer’s Mobile Playground.
The Athlete Leadership Summit presented by Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital will focus on “seven healthy habits” as well as defining what it means to be an “Athlete.” Athlete Leadership Summit scheduled speakers include:
- Tom Izzo: MSU Head Basketball Coach
- Mark Dantonio: MSU Head Football Coach
- Dr. Bill Stratbucker: Medical Director of the Healthy Weight Center at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital
- Mike Riemersma: Cornerstone University Champions of Character Director
Courtesy of 105.3 HOT FM, bands Locksley and Finding Clyde will provide live music entertainment. The Fun Zone, sponsored by Rainbow Child Development centers, will include basketball inflatables and a speed pitch competition. In addition to the Fun Zone, Meijer’s Mobile Playground will be onsite with a variety of interactive activities for all to take part in.
The Meijer State Games of Michigan will also showcase sport demonstrations. Demonstrations include: Sheaf Tossing presented by the Highland Games, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and a performance by Martial Arts World Champion, Mariah Moore “The Eskrimadora.”
Entertainment preceding Opening Ceremonies will begin June 24 at 4pm until 6:30pm. Following the athlete entertainment, the Opening Ceremonies will begin at 7pm. Food and refreshment vendors will be onsite throughout the entirety of the event.
