Jim Murray doesn’t take credit for the quote, but he is more than happy to keep spreading the word.

“One of the quotes I heard someone say is that in karate and taekwondo, expect to be hit with a foot or hand,” Murray said. “In judo, we try to hit you with the earth. In other words, we slam you to the ground.”

Murray used the quote when explaining one of the differences between judo and other forms of martial arts. He is a judo instructor at the Grand Rapids Kroc Center, 2500 South Division, and this weekend is like Christmas and the Super Bowl rolled into one for him.
