Mr. Yasuhiro Yamashita and Mr. Kosei Inoue visited Israel and the Palestinian territories from July 17 until July 22.
Mr. Yamashita is a legendary Judo-ka who won a gold medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and achieved 203 consecutive victories until his retirement. Mr. Inoue is one of the most accomplished students of Mr. Yamashita. He won a gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The visit was co-hosted by the Japan Foundation.
During their stay, Mr. Yamashita and Mr. Inoue gave lectures and trainings to the Israeli and Palestinian Judo-ka as well as a joint training with Israeli and Palestinian youth. They also had meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders in the arena of sports including Ms. Limor Livnat, Minister of Culture and Sports of Israel, and Dr. Salam Fayyad, Palestinian Prime Minister who is also temporarily supervising the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
As a follow up of this visit, Solidarity of International Judo Education, the non-profitable organization initiated by Mr. Yamashita, will invite Israeli and Palestinian young Judo-ka to the SANIX International Youth Judo Team Tournament held in Fukuoka, Japan in December 2010.
